CDSCO flagged 159 drug samples as not of standard quality in May and found one spurious sample in Assam during routine surveillance.

India’s drug regulator has flagged 159 drug samples as not of standard quality during routine surveillance in May, while one sample was identified as spurious in Assam. Of the total, 46 samples were declared NSQ by central drug laboratories and 113 by state drug laboratories.

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation said the findings apply only to specific batches and do not mean other batches of the same products are substandard. Drugs are classified as NSQ when they fail prescribed quality parameters.

The alert adds to ongoing scrutiny of medicine quality in the country, with regulators continuing routine testing across central and state laboratories. The spurious sample was detected in Assam, according to the latest monthly alert.
