“The healthcare sector in India is plagued by a plethora of challenges which include lack of proper infrastructure and low government spending on the sector. The Budget as a whole is a balanced and well-rounded one, which aims to foster the growth of our economy again. With agriculture, health and education receiving a bulk of the Budgetary allocation this year, this seems to be a good start for us.
The government’s new flagship National Health Protection Scheme, which aims to insure as much as 500 million people for up to 500,000 rupees a year of care, could change the way healthcare is perceived in the country. Apart from this, the government is also looking to set up health and wellness centres, which will bring healthcare systems closer to each citizen.
Clearly, the announcement in the area of healthcare is path-breaking. All in all, given the limited space that the Finance Minister had, I believe the Budget has taken a huge step in making healthcare affordable and accessible to everyone.”
