Aarthi Scans & Labs and Origin Medical Research Lab India Private Limited, the research and development arm of Origin Medical, have announced an ongoing collaboration to enhance the quality and accessibility of prenatal ultrasound care through artificial intelligence. Over the past five years, the two organisations have jointly developed and validated AI solutions tailored for maternal- fetal imaging in high-volume clinical environments, with the goal of ensuring that expecting mothers receive consistent, high-quality prenatal assessments irrespective of where they seek care.
The collaboration focuses on critical steps in the prenatal ultrasound workflow, including automated image capture, anatomical landmark detection, real-time image quality assessment and fetal biometry. These capabilities are designed to streamline workflows, reduce inter-operator variability and support clinicians in delivering more standardised prenatal care. By integrating AI-driven guidance and feedback into routine scans, the partners aim to help radiologists and fetal medicine specialists complete comprehensive anatomical surveys more efficiently, while maintaining adherence to international practice guidelines.

The outcomes of the joint work, carried out in collaboration with additional clinical and research partners, have been presented at leading international forums such as the ISUOG World Congress and the Fetal Medicine Foundation World Congress. Across multiple studies, the AI systems have demonstrated strong performance in identifying and assessing complete fetal anatomy, including critical regions like the fetal central nervous system, underscoring their potential role in strengthening anomaly detection in routine clinical practice.
As part of the collaboration, the partners have developed AI systems with automated image capture and feedback features that help clinical teams acquire complete anatomical surveys more efficiently, thereby reducing scan times and improving the overall patient experience. The systems also incorporate real-time image-quality and view-completeness checks, providing immediate feedback to ensure that required anatomical views are captured in line with international standards. In addition, automated fetal measurement tools are intended to improve the consistency of fetal biometry and reduce human-to-human variability in prenatal ultrasound assessments across different centres.
