Agrizy has launched its Phytochemistry R&D Laboratory, a cutting-edge facility aimed at producing high-performance botanical ingredients and enhancing value flow across India’s herbal supply chain from farm to finished product. Positioned to tap into the $650 billion global nutraceutical market, the lab addresses surging demand for scientifically validated, regulatory-compliant botanicals.
India’s herbal farming communities have long supplied raw materials to the global wellness industry, yet limited value realization at the source due to fragmented procurement, price-driven aggregation, and inconsistent quality has restricted farmers’ access to premium markets. As global nutraceutical demand prioritizes provenance, safety, clinical validation, and transparency, Agrizy’s initiative bridges this gap.
“This investment enhances our capability to develop scientifically validated herbal ingredients that comply with global standards and deliver consistent performance. By combining traditional botanical knowledge with advanced research, extraction technologies, and strong quality systems, we are creating standardized ingredients that meet international expectations. This demonstrates our commitment to establishing credibility and long-term value within the nutraceutical ecosystem,” said Dr. S. Vijaya Kumar, CEO, Wellness, Agrizy.
Equipped with advanced laboratory instruments, the facility extracts, isolates, and purifies phyto-ingredients from medicinal plants, focusing on development, raw material authentication, and herbal extract standardization. A key differentiator is phytochemical evaluation, with multi-stage fingerprinting and method validation per United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) and international benchmarks, ensuring reproducible potency and purity claims.
The lab pioneers advanced delivery systems like phytosomes, nanoformulations, and water-soluble formats to boost absorption, stability, and performance in capsules, tablets, functional beverages, and nutraceutical foods.
Led by Dr. Laxman Sawant (PhD in Phytochemistry, 16+ years at Dabur, Himalaya, Piramal, Natural Remedies, and OmniActive), the team brings over 100 years of combined expertise in botanical research, analytical chemistry, formulation, and regulatory affairs.
Agrizy partners with farmers, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), and Village Level Aggregators (VLAs) in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal hubs for turmeric, coleus, bacopa, and ashwagandha. Its sourcing model sets phytochemical and marker-based specs at the farm level, blending Ayurvedic pharmacognosy with modern validation for quality-controlled pipelines, stable premium demand, traceability, and reduced adulteration.
This stakeholder-aligned approach benefits farmers with higher-value demand, brands with compliant ingredients, and markets with traceable, research-backed products. Agrizy holds 21 trademarks, two patents (more filings), and targets high-demand botanicals like Curcumin (inflammation/metabolic health), Ashwagandha (adaptogenic/cognitive), Boswellia (joint health), Bacopa, and Gymnema. Early Curcumin and Coleus initiatives are commercializing now.
Regulatory integration supports FSSAI, AYUSH, US FDA, and EFSA compliance via complete technical dossiers, shortening development cycles to 3-6 months from concept to market.
