The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has completed one of its largest faculty recruitment drives using blockchain-based digital technology, filling more than 460 vacant posts across over 50 disciplines at AIIMS New Delhi and the AIIMS–Central Armed Police Forces Institute of Medical Sciences (CAPFIMS) campus in Maidan Garhi. The appointments span positions from Assistant Professor to Professor, and are expected to significantly strengthen the institutes’ capacity in patient care, teaching and medical research. The six‑month selection process attracted over 3,200 applications for 265 posts at AIIMS New Delhi and 199 posts at the AIIMS–CAPFIMS campus, reflecting the scale and importance of the exercise.
According to AIIMS, blockchain technology was integrated into the recruitment workflow to enhance transparency, data security and confidentiality at every stage of the selection process. Candidates’ marks were digitally locked using one‑time passwords and stored on a tamper‑resistant digital ledger, after which the software generated the final merit list based on these scores and predefined algorithms, with no human intervention except in cases where tie‑breaking was required. Institute officials said this approach reduced manual handling of evaluation records, minimised the scope for errors and ensured that the final results could be declared swiftly while maintaining the integrity and credibility of the process.
The adoption of blockchain for recruitment marks a significant step in AIIMS Delhi’s broader push towards technology‑enabled governance and institutional reform. By demonstrating that emerging digital tools can be used to run secure, transparent and efficient recruitment systems at scale, the institute has set a precedent for other medical and higher education institutions across the country. The newly appointed faculty members are expected to play a key role in expanding specialised clinical services, mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals and advancing cutting‑edge research in their respective fields, further consolidating AIIMS’s position as a premier centre of excellence in Indian healthcare and medical education.
