IMT News Desk

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati, has inaugurated its new Clinical Trial Unit (CTU), marking a significant milestone for medical research and innovation in the Northeastern region of India.

Speaking at the inauguration, AIIMS Executive Director Ashok Puranik emphasized that the CTU will play a pivotal role in translating cutting-edge scientific discoveries into better health outcomes for patients. The new unit is poised to bolster the institute’s mission of fostering high-quality, ethical, and patient-centered clinical research. With its establishment, investigators at AIIMS Guwahati will be equipped to conduct robust studies aimed at addressing both regional and national health priorities.

The CTU is designed to catalyse both investigator-initiated trials and sponsor-led studies, thereby broadening the scope of clinical research in the region. Additionally, this development promises to enhance patient access to advanced therapies, giving hope to those in need of innovative treatments.

Another key focus of the Clinical Trial Unit will be building a sustainable pipeline of research talent, ensuring that the next generation of medical professionals in the North East is well-prepared for future scientific challenges. The facility is expected to promote multi-center collaborations with national networks and global partners, tackling diseases that are significant to the local and national population.

As a hub for healthcare innovation, AIIMS Guwahati continues to encourage research-driven collaborations that deliver tangible public health benefits. According to an official release, this new facility is set to foster an environment where high-impact research is seamlessly translated into improved medical care and public health outcomes.

This move reaffirms AIIMS Guwahati’s commitment to advancing patient-centered medical research and improving the health landscape of India’s Northeastern states.
