Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai is now opening its unit in Chennai. Situated on the city’s Poonamallee High Road, the facility is spread around 500,000 sq.ft and has all the sub-specialities in ophthalmology. The hospital will strive to provide high quality ophthalmic care at affordable rates. The centre has 250 paying beds and a separate section with 500 beds is set up exclusively for the underprivileged sections of the society offering services for free or at steeply subsidised rates.

Over the years, Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai has built good-will and trust amongst patients coming from Chennai and Andhra Pradesh. A number of patients from several parts of the city have been visiting Aravind Eye Hospitals in various locations to avail quality eye treatment. This number has been increasing year after year. Most of these patients come to Aravind for speciality eye surgeries which are complex and are provided at reasonable charges or at subsidised cost for those who belong to poor socioeconomic groups. Many of them have to come for several review visits following surgery and the cost involved in the travel makes the entire treatment cycle expensive for many. Recognizing the hardships that these patients have to face to access the hospital, Aravind was very keen to establish a hospital in Chennai.

The physical environment and infrastructure developed at Aravind-Chennai, is a reflection of the values for which the organisation stand for – transparency, integrity, and compassionate care. The facility will serve as a centre of excellence by treating patients, training eye care professionals and disseminating the latest and best practices in eye care.
