As India’s population ages and neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor become more common, movement disorders are placing an increasing burden on patients, caregivers and the healthcare system. Beyond tremors and impaired movement, these conditions often disrupt an individual’s ability to work, manage daily tasks, stay socially engaged and live independently. Despite advances in neurological care, awareness of treatment options beyond conventional medication remains limited, leaving many patients and families unaware of newer interventions that could help improve symptom control and quality of life.
To address this gap, the Vattikuti Foundation will host the NeuroNext Forum in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi and Chandigarh on July 11, 12, 18 and 19 under the theme “Restoring Life with Focused Ultrasound”. Conceived as a public awareness initiative for patients and caregivers, the forum will bring together neurologists, neurosurgeons and healthcare leaders to discuss advances in non-invasive brain therapies and their role in improving outcomes for people living with movement disorders. Participants will be able to interact directly with experts, learn about available treatment options and gain insights into innovations that are helping improve mobility, independence and everyday functioning. While medication remains the cornerstone of treatment for movement disorders, many patients continue to experience symptoms that significantly affect daily life despite optimal drug therapy. One advanced intervention, MR-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS), is a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment that uses precisely focused ultrasound energy guided by real-time MRI imaging to target affected areas of the brain without incisions, radiation or implants. By creating small, targeted therapeutic effects in specific brain regions, MRgFUS can help reduce tremors, improve symptom control and enhance mobility and functional independence, often with immediate results and without the need for traditional surgery or general anaesthesia.
