Aster DM Healthcare opens State-of-the-Art Medical Centre at the Bengaluru Airport

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) today announced the inauguration of a medical centre to cater to the needs of both travellers and visitors at the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport). Operated by Aster CMI Hospital, the new medical centre will have a team of well-trained medical staff, non-medical staff and experienced clinical technicians working round-the-clock to offer various medical services.

The Aster Airport Medical Centre, located in a separate building at the end of the Terminal building, on the kerbside will provide both emergency and routine medical services to Bengaluru Airport staff, pilots, passengers and community.

Hari Marar, President, Airport Operations, BIAL said, “This new facility is a significant boost to the facilities on offer at our airport and reaffirms our commitment to offer the best-in-class experience to customers. Aster CMI Hospital has made a mark with its holistic, modern and high-quality approach to healthcare services, and we are happy to partner with them to offer superior medical services. This is in line with our envisioned goal to become an airport that offers world-class facilities.”

The Aster Airport Medical Centre is spread across 10,000 square feet with a state-of-the-art facility that includes Cardiac care, X-ray, Mortuary, Audiometry and Ophthalmology units. This equipment specifically meets the standards of Pilot Medicals and other tests specific to an airport environment.  Equipped with a 10-bed, 24/7 emergency unit and ambulance, the Aster CMI Hospital will also offer pre-employment express health checks. The medical facility at the BLR Airport will provide convenient and comprehensive care for not only airport customers and staff, but also cater to the needs of the local community.

Announcing the launch, Aster CMI Hospital CEO, Dr. Nitish Shetty, said, “It is a privilege for us to be able to offer medical services to passengers travelling to and from the airport, as well as people employed with various services on the airport campus. The facility will be supported by the Aster CMI Hospital, our quaternary care, super-specialty healthcare facility in Bengaluru.”

“BIAL is constantly innovating to maximise the ease of customer passage through BLR Airport. The Aster Airport Medical Centre is just one more step in that direction. This association will ensure high-quality healthcare for our customers as well as hassle-free access to all users of the Airport, due to its strategic location”, said Bodapati Bhaskar, Senior Director Finance and Support Services, BIAL.

Speaking at the inauguration Sreenath Reddy, Group CFO, Aster DM Healthcare, said, “As a leading healthcare provider, the decision to open a hospital in an area where it would make a difference to people was a natural one. The facility has been designed keeping in view the growing number of international passengers at the Bengaluru Airport. The facility also has a waiting lounge for international patients – in addition to translators and coordinators that will make their interaction seamless.”

Dr. Chandil Kumar, COO, Aster CMI Hospital, added, “The Airport sees over 60,000 passengers each day. As a medical facility provider we understand the importance of basic life support. Through our Aster @30 programme, we aim to train airlines and airport staff in handling medical emergencies. Our effort is to create awareness on basic life support training for over 500 staff through this initiative.”

Aster DM Healthcare opened the Aster Clinic in the passenger terminal area at the Airport in October 2016 and has provided medical care for close to 10,000 people over the last 10 months. The facility offers consultations with medical doctors and tele-consultations with specialist doctors. The clinic was phase 1 of the healthcare facility to become operational at the Kempegowda International Airport, subsequent to the 7-year healthcare partnership agreement signed in July 2016 by Aster DM Healthcare with BIAL.
