Aster DM Quality Care Limited has begun operations following the successful merger of Aster DM Healthcare and Quality Care India Limited (QCIL), uniting four established healthcare brands: Aster DM, CARE Hospitals, Evercare and KIMSHEALTH. The new entity aims to expand access to specialist care, advanced treatments and cutting-edge medical technology beyond India’s metropolitan centres, with operations starting across 39 hospitals in 28 cities. In the combined organisation, Dr Azad Moopen will continue as Executive Chairman and Varun Khanna will lead the business as Managing Director and Group CEO.

With a strong footprint across South and Central India, Aster DM Quality Care is positioned to serve several underpenetrated, fast-growing healthcare hubs outside the metros. These centres are expected to play a central role in the group’s strategy to decentralise affordable, advanced healthcare by expanding specialist services, investing in high-end medical technologies and strengthening centres of excellence closer to where patients live. The merged platform will focus on building a cohesive network that can deliver consistent standards of care across tier 2 and tier 3 cities, reducing the need for patients to travel to metropolitan areas for complex interventions.

Commenting on the commencement of Day 1 operations, Dr Azad Moopen, Executive Chairman, Aster DM Quality Care, said, “The coming together of Aster and Quality Care as a single enterprise marks a defining milestone in our journey to build one of India’s most trusted and future-ready healthcare institutions. More than the combination of two healthcare networks, it is the convergence of shared values, clinical excellence, deep medical expertise and an unwavering commitment to patient care. Together, we are creating an institution that is stronger, more resilient and better positioned to address the evolving healthcare needs of India.”

Outlining the strategic priorities for the combined organisation, Varun Khanna, Managing Director and Group CEO, Aster DM Quality Care, said, “Aster Quality Care brings together highly complementary institutions, strong clinical ecosystems and teams united by a shared ambition to strengthen healthcare delivery in India. At Aster Quality Care patients and their families will be at the centre of every decision, with digitally enabled solutions and a strong bias for high-quality clinical outcomes. Our immediate focus is disciplined and seamless integration with continuity of patient care. We are committed to ensuring that patients, clinicians, employees and partners experience stability and consistency as we bring together systems, capabilities and best practices across the combined network.”

The consolidated platform is expected to unlock substantial synergies across clinical collaboration, technology adoption, procurement, digital health and operational excellence. Doctors across the network will increasingly work through shared protocols, multidisciplinary case discussions and centres of excellence, allowing patients to benefit from a broader pool of expertise while receiving consistent, evidence-based care in different locations. The focus on collaboration is designed to enhance clinical outcomes and ensure that best practices are uniformly implemented throughout the system.

With 39 hospitals, more than 10,600 beds and a presence in 28 cities, Aster DM Quality Care is uniquely positioned to expand specialist care and advanced treatment across India’s tier 2 and tier 3 cities such as Nagpur, Aurangabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Nagercoil, Kolhapur, Kannur, Kasaragod and Kottakkal. This expansion builds on a long-standing vision of taking advanced healthcare capabilities to emerging cities. From introducing the first LINAC-based radiation therapy system in Nagercoil to extending robotic surgery programmes in Raipur, Trivandrum and Kolhapur, with further rollouts planned in Guntur and Vijayawada, these investments not only bring sophisticated clinical care closer to patients but also help attract and retain high-quality clinical talent in non-metro locations.

Leveraging this foundation, the combined entity plans to accelerate investments in advanced technologies such as Gamma Knife, stereotactic radiosurgery platforms like ZAP, and at least 10 robotic surgical systems, while expanding access to comprehensive cancer care through the addition of 12 LINAC-based radiation therapy systems across tier 2 and tier 3 cities. Over the coming years, the group’s combined bed strength is expected to grow to more than 15,000 beds, further widening access to affordable care. With over 45,000 healthcare professionals across the network, Aster DM Quality Care brings together one of India’s most extensive clinical ecosystems, supporting closer collaboration among doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and caregivers, and creating thousands of new employment opportunities as the network expands.
