Session on Australia-India Digital Health Dialogue

The session focused on the digital health sector in India and some of the key issues discussed at this session included developing a road map for a technology-enabled healthcare ecosystem; defining the future of health through use of technology; transforming India through technology enabled care and innovations in digital health & medical devices. Australia’s experience delivering healthcare in remote areas and using data analytics to predict future demand is synergistic with India’s need for remote health in rural parts of the country. Senior representatives from Indian healthcare companies, IT companies, hospitals & telemedicine experts, med-tech and medical devices companies, digital health start-ups & investors participated in this session.

Speaking about the delegation, Mr John Madew, Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner, Australian Trade & Investment Commission, Australian Government said, “Australian Government and businesses are investing in digital health solutions to build a sustainable healthcare system and respond to challenges including increased cost and demand pressures, greater demand for personalised care and an ageing population. In particular, Australia’s ability to deliver healthcare in remote areas and use data analytics to predict future demand can help India meet its need for remote health in rural parts of the country.” “Australia has a diverse health industry, with capabilities spread across a wide range of niche and complex health areas. The country has a strong reputation in medicine including cardiology, neuroscience, oncology and sports science, and can demonstrate these capabilities in the delivery of policy, research, equipment, technology, skills and services,” said John Madew.

The 30-member Australian higher education delegation is a part of the 150 member Australian business delegation that are currently in India as part of The Australia Business Week in India 2017 (ABWI) organised by The Australian Trade & Investment Commission (Austrade), Australian Government.
