Bharat Biotech International has announced the launch of Nucelion, a Hyderabad-based Contract Research Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CRDMO), dedicated to advanced cell and gene therapies. Nucelion is a wholly-owned subsidiary, established in Genome Valley over a sprawling 30,000 sq ft facility, marking a significant step forward in India’s biotech and pharmaceutical landscape.
Nucelion’s new GMP-certified facility is equipped to develop and manufacture plasmids, viral and non-viral vectors, and cell therapies, with a focus on rare diseases, cancer, and autoimmune disorders. The launch comes as Bharat Biotech continues to expand its footprint beyond vaccines, aiming to become a global leader in biological therapeutics.
“The future of pharmaceutical innovation will be biological; CGTs (cell and gene therapies) are a key vector and our vision is to integrate advanced therapy platforms into solutions for complex and rare diseases,” said Dr. Krishna Ella, Executive Chairman of Bharat Biotech and Non-Executive Director of Nucelion.
While details regarding the capital investment in Nucelion were not disclosed, the company is well-positioned to address the growing demand for innovative therapeutic platforms tackling previously untreatable or complex medical conditions. Industry observers note this move reflects Bharat Biotech’s commitment to pioneering biotechnological advancements in India, bringing cutting-edge research into manufacturing and patient care.
With the establishment of Nucelion, Bharat Biotech joins a global push toward next-generation therapies, reinforcing its leadership role in the evolving pharmaceutical ecosystem and promising broader access to transformative treatments for patients with rare and complicated illnesses.
