The Union Health Ministry has launched a Drug Registry under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission to standardise medicine-related information across India’s healthcare ecosystem. The registry is intended to act as a single source of verified drug information, helping improve consistency in how medicines are identified, stored, exchanged and used across digital health systems.
Built in collaboration with the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization and the National Resource Centre for EHR Standards, the registry uses standard coding frameworks to support interoperability. It currently covers generic medicines, branded drugs and substances, and is designed to strengthen prescribing, dispensing and health data exchange across the country.
Officials said the platform will improve transparency, trust and data quality in healthcare delivery. It is also part of a wider effort to build common digital standards for India’s health ecosystem and make health information easier to share across systems.
