Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre unveils new initiatives for World Diabetes Day, 2024

Launch of ‘Healthy Aging Clinic’ & ‘Dr Mohan’s On Wheels’ to Enhance Diabetes Care and Accessibility

Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre (DMDSC) has launched the ‘Healthy Aging Clinic’ and ‘Dr Mohan’s On Wheels.’ These two novel initiatives seek to reshape how diabetes is managed in India, placing a strong emphasis on accessibility, preventive care, and quality of life improvements.

Unveiled in honour of ‘World Diabetes Day’, these services are in alignment with this year’s theme of improving diabetes care access, showcasing DMDSC’s commitment to empowering patients through innovative solutions that bring healthcare directly to their communities and homes.

The Healthy Aging Clinic, a first-of-its-kind service in India, is dedicated to addressing the unique needs of ageing individuals, particularly those managing diabetes. This clinic offers comprehensive care to enhance physical, mental, and cognitive health, focusing on preventive measures to improve the quality of life of elders. With a multidisciplinary team of specialists, the clinic provides personalised care and evidence-based strategies to manage diabetes-related challenges, reduce complications and support patients in maintaining an active, fulfilling lifestyle.

"Healthy ageing encompasses much more than just physical wellness; it’s about nurturing the mind and body together to support our patients as they grow older,” said Dr V Mohan, Chairman, Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre. “At Dr Mohan’s, we are deeply committed to a holistic approach to healthcare, ensuring that individuals receive the support they need at every stage of life. This new clinic represents a significant advancement in our mission to provide preventive and proactive care that addresses the unique challenges faced by our elderly patients. By focusing on physical health, mental resilience, and cognitive vitality, we are empowering our patients to maintain their independence, enhance their well-being, and truly lead fuller, more fulfilling lives as they age."

Dr RM Anjana, MD, Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, emphasised the specialised focus of the new clinic, noting, “We are proud to introduce India’s first Healthy Aging Clinic within a diabetes centre, recognising that people with diabetes are at an increased risk for cognitive issues such as dementia. Our clinic is designed to identify early signs of cognitive decline, and we’re committed to employing state-of-the-art tools and interventions to manage and potentially prevent these issues. Through this specialised care, we hope to improve not only physical health but also mental resilience and cognitive vitality in our patients.”

Adding to the expertise, Dr S Uthra, Consultant, Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, highlighted the clinic’s comprehensive approach to cognitive care, stating, “Early detection of cognitive decline is crucial, and we are implementing cutting-edge assessment tools to identify symptoms early on. For our elderly patients, personalized treatment plans and support are paramount, and this clinic is a significant step toward providing tailored, compassionate care.”

Further expanding its commitment to accessible healthcare, DMDSC has also introduced Dr Mohan’s On Wheels, a mobile diabetes care initiative that brings healthcare directly to patients’ homes. This new service includes in-home doctor consultations, personalised support, and ongoing care, designed to ensure patients receive consistent and convenient diabetes management without the need to visit a clinic.

“We’re on a mission to make diabetes care as accessible as possible,” explained Dr Mohan. “With Dr Mohan’s On Wheels, we’re reaching patients who may otherwise find it challenging to visit a clinic regularly. This initiative will enhance treatment adherence, empower individuals in their self-care, and ultimately lead to better health outcomes.”

Expanding on the vision for this innovative service, Dr Anjana remarked, “Accessibility remains a pressing issue in healthcare, and Dr Mohan’s On Wheels is our answer to bridging that gap. By meeting patients where they are, we’re offering a personalised and convenient approach that prioritises continuity of care. This initiative is designed to reduce healthcare disparities and bring specialised diabetes support into the homes of those who need it most.”
