According to Dr Reddy, Dr Shanta stands tall amongst India’s greatest doctors
Dr Prathap C Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, expressed his heartfelt condolences on the sudden demise of Dr V Shanta.
In a statement issued by Apollo Hospitals Group, Dr Reddy said, “The sudden passing away of Dr V Shanta, Chairperson, Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, has left me with a heavy heart. The driving force behind the Cancer Institute from its humble beginnings in 1955, she stands tall amongst India’s greatest doctors. Along with the late Dr S Krishnamurthi, she worked steadfastly and with a single-minded focus to provide the best evidence-based care and treatment even to those who may not be able to afford it, helping lakhs of cancer patients from across the country. She was the doyen of cancer care in India and with her pioneering work, ensured that the Cancer Institute grew into one of the best state-of-the-art cancer hospitals in the world.”
