The partnership aims to address growing challenges relating to medical negligence litigation, patient rights, ethical medical practice, and regulatory compliance

DY Patil University School of Law (DYPSOL), Navi Mumbai, has entered into a strategic academic partnership with the Institute of Medicine & Law (IML) to advance medico-legal education, research, and patient-centred healthcare governance.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Prof (Dr) Karuna Akshay Malviya, Director, DYPSOL, and Ravindra Mangal, Executive Director, IML. The collaboration will focus on joint research, policy advocacy, executive education, and flagship medico-legal programmes.

The partnership aims to address growing challenges relating to medical negligence litigation, patient rights, ethical medical practice, and regulatory compliance. It seeks to promote informed consent, transparency, and accountability in healthcare delivery while strengthening patient advocacy and public trust.

The 18th Annual MedLegal Review 2026 will be the first programme jointly organised under this collaboration, continuing its long-standing role in educating doctors, hospitals, and medico-legal professionals on evolving legal standards and best practices. The partnership will also launch an executive training programme in April 2026, aimed at hospital leadership and senior decision-makers to strengthen the medico-legal governance and compliance.

Prof (Dr) Karuna Akshay Malviya stated that the partnership would help build interdisciplinary capacity to respond to complex medical negligence and patient safety issues. Dr Chirag Balyan highlighted its importance for research-led engagement on patient advocacy and healthcare accountability. Ravindra Mangal noted that the collaboration would contribute to reducing disputes through better legal awareness among medical professionals. Agasti Mhatre emphasised that sustained medico-legal dialogue is essential for ethical practice and litigation avoidance.

DYPSOL functions under DY Patil Deemed to be University, led by Chancellor Dr Vijay D Patil and Pro-Chancellor Dr Shivani Patil. IML is a leading provider of education, information, and services related to medical laws for doctors, hospitals, and lawyers.
