First doctor in Karnataka to have performed more than 2000 Minimally Invasive Computer Navigation Assisted Knee Replacement Surgeries

Bengaluru April 13, 2019: Dr Chandrashekar P. H.O.D. – Orthopaedics & Senior Consultant Joint Replacement Sakra World Hospital, Bengaluru has been felicitated for conducting over 2,000 Minimally Invasive Computer Navigation Assisted Knee Replacement surgery by Dr. Asit Shah, Chief Joint Replacement Surgeon a renowned Orthopaedic surgeon from Englewood Medical Hospital & Centre, New Jersey – USA today.

Minimally Invasive Computer Navigation Assisted Knee Replacement surgery has become a commonly performed and highly successful surgical procedure benefitting patients with speedy recovery, shorter hospital stays, less time on a walker and a quicker return to normal ways of life, better surgery outcomes and also speeds up the rehabilitation process post the surgery.

The department of Orthopaedics, Sakra World Hospital, Bangalore has also joined hand with Englewood Medical Hospital & Centre, New Jersey – USA to execute ‘International Knowledge Partnership’. This partnership between the two hospitals will offer a platform to exchange clinical knowledge programme, latest technical advancements in joint replacements and a-never-before-international-focus-group for patients to exchange their experiences which will help the Indian doctors, medical practitioners on various research programme, understanding new products, adopting new technique to perform complex procedures. ‘Doctor Observation Program’ will also help the doctors to exchange clinical knowledge and visit hospitals to increase their knowledge on patient care, innovation and benefit for the patient cost.

This collaboration will help patients to get informed on the latest technology and treatment through interactive webinars. This program will provide an interactive forum for patients who have undergone replacement surgeries to share their experiences with patients who are planning to undergo the same which aims to address the post-surgery experiences and rehabilitation programme benefits and apprehension towards the surgery.

Speaking at the event, Dr Chandrashekar P. said, “It has been many years that I have been treating patients with bone and joint diseases, cases of rheumatoid arthritis, injuries, trauma and fractures at Sakra World Hospital. I have conducted more than 10,000 bone and joint surgeries, this has made me better acquainted with patient-care and factors concerning pre and post surgeries. We are delighted to associate with Englewood Hospital, which aims to provide patients with opportunities to interact with doctors and support groups to understand about knee replacement surgery. These sessions help in instilling confidence amongst patients to adopt new methods and also to encourage patients to undergo treatment. Sakra World Hospital is in the forefront in aspects of technology adoption and to conduct minimally invasive computer navigation assisted knee replacement surgeries in Karnataka and we have completed over 2,000 surgeries already. The event also witnessed unveiling of Opulent (Bionik Gold Knee System) with Vitelon, anti-ageing polyethylene with Vitamin E, tailor made by Dr. Asit Shah. This combination will be introduced for the first time in Karnataka for the patients.

The emergency bay has a mini lab / static lab facility with critical equipment’s such as blood gas analyzer, cell counter etc., to empower doctors in taking quicker and better-informed decision.
