As global leaders, public health agencies, multilateral institutions and industry representatives convened in Malaysia for the Global Health Security Conference 2026 (GHS2026), Molbio Diagnostics showcased India’s contribution to global pandemic preparedness through its work in decentralized molecular diagnostics, becoming the only Indian private-sector diagnostics developer participating in the conference.
Molbio Diagnostics has developed a real-time PCR assay capable of detecting Ebola disease caused by all three viruses known to trigger large outbreaks- Ebola virus, Sudan virus and Bundibugyo virus, designed for use on the company’s portable Truenat platform, the test delivers results in approximately one hour, enabling faster clinical decision-making and timely public health interventions.
A key area of discussion at the conference was the importance of preparedness, resilience, and collaboration in addressing both existing and emerging health threats, with strong emphasis placed on translating lessons learned from recent public health emergencies into practical actions that strengthen health systems and improve countries’ ability to prevent, detect, and respond to future threats.
Dr. Kuldeep Singh Sachdeva, President and Chief Medical Officer, Partnerships and Advocacy, Molbio Diagnostics, participated in a panel discussion on the “Strategic Role of the Private Sector in Global Health Security”, where participants threw light on how private-sector organisations can contribute to global health security beyond financing through innovation, deployment capabilities, manufacturing capacity, technology transfer and last-mile access.
During the discussion, Dr. Sachdeva shared learnings from the deployment of Molbio’s Truenat platform during India’s COVID-19 response and its evolution as a versatile molecular diagnostics platform supporting the detection of tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis, Ebola, among others.
Molbio’s participation at GHS2026 is aligned with its broader engagement in global health security initiatives, with the organisation serving as a member of the External Advisory Council of the Pandemic Fund, the world’s first multilateral financing mechanism dedicated exclusively to strengthening pandemic prevention, preparedness and response capacities, particularly across low- and middle-income countries.
The impact of decentralized diagnostics for global health security is already being demonstrated internationally, with Truenat systems deployed across Caribbean nations during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 through support from the Pandemic Fund and the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) to strengthen public health surveillance capabilities, the systems were used to strengthen surveillance and testing for pathogens, creating lasting diagnostic capacity that continues to support regional preparedness efforts.
