The government is seeking AI-driven innovations to automate claims processing under Ayushman Bharat’s Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PM-JAY), aiming to cut delays and boost efficiency for hospitals and beneficiaries. The National Health Authority (NHA) has launched an Auto-Adjudication Hackathon to develop scalable tools for handling high-volume claims with accuracy and compliance.
Hackathon Overview
Registrations for the hackathon opened on March 31 and will close on April 13, with a two-day offline finale at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru on May 8-9. The National Medical Commission (NMC) urged all medical colleges to promote participation among researchers, innovators, and professionals. Selected teams will showcase solutions to policymakers, healthcare leaders, and tech experts.
Key Participants
Senior officials, including NHA CEO Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal and industry leader Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, will join the opening session. Day two discussions will explore AI’s role in healthcare claims and necessary regulatory safeguards.
Strategic Goals
Experts note that automated adjudication could drastically reduce processing times, minimize errors, and enhance transparency in India’s largest health insurance scheme. This initiative addresses critical trust-building needs in public health insurance amid rising claim volumes.
