ICICI Bank pledges ₹625 Crore to establish premier radiation therapy centre at Tata Memorial Centre

IMT News Desk

ICICI Bank, in a landmark collaboration with Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), announced the commencement of construction for a state-of-the-art cancer care building at TMC’s Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research & Education in Cancer (ACTREC), Navi Mumbai. Backed by a substantial contribution of ₹625 crore, this new facility will be one of India’s largest radiation therapy centres, equipped with modern medical technologies designed to meet the growing cancer care needs of the country.

The “ICICI Foundation Block for Radiation Oncology”, unveiled today following a ceremonial groundbreaking and foundation stone laying attended by top officials from ICICI Bank and TMC, is part of the Bank’s broader ₹1,800 crore commitment to TMC for developing cancer care hospitals at three locations: Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra, Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) in Punjab, and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

Spanning 3.4 lakh square feet across 11 storeys plus a ground floor and two basements, the facility will house 12 advanced Linear Accelerators (LINACs) that deliver precision radiation to cancer cells, minimizing damage to healthy tissues. Annually, it will provide radiation therapies for 7,200 patients and offer OPD consults and diagnostics to 25,000 new patients, meeting both clinical and research needs. Completion is slated by 2027, with the ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth overseeing implementation.

ICICI Bank Chairman Pradeep Kumar Sinha stated, “Our partnership with TMC underscores a firm commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure. Once completed, the ICICI Foundation Block for Radiation Oncology will will be one of India’s largest centres for radiation therapy. This will significantly augment availability of advanced radiation therapy to larger sections of society.”

Executive Director Sandeep Batra reinforced the Bank’s dedication to healthcare, noting, “The new facility at Navi Mumbai will increase current radiation capacity six-fold, alongside diagnostics and consultations, making cancer care more accessible.”

Tata Memorial Centre’s Director, Dr. Sudeep Gupta, and other leaders expressed gratitude for ICICI’s support, emphasizing the transformative impact these new blocks will have. The centre will provide excellence in childhood and adult blood cancers and house one of India’s largest radiation oncology facilities. This will also be utilised for education and training of medical, technical and paramedical staff that are urgently needed in the country to handle the rising burden of cancer.

The ICICI Foundation Block will feature a range of advanced equipment for precision therapy, MRI and CT scanners, simulators for in- and out-patients, and dedicated spaces for medical research and training, securing its role as a leading force in India’s cancer care landscape.
