The Indian Council of Medical Research’s National Institute of Epidemiology (ICMR-NIE), Chennai, has launched a first-of-its-kind data analytics platform called ADARV (Advanced Data Analytics for Public Health Action and Research Venture), designed to strengthen epidemic intelligence and enhance outbreak response through data-driven analytics.
In collaboration with the Centre of Data for Public Good (CDPG) and the Isaac Centre for Public Health (ICPH) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, ICMR-NIE announced the launch of ADARV at an online event on Friday, June 5, 2026, with researchers, field epidemiologists, technology experts and policymakers from across the country attending the event.
ADARV is designed to make epidemic intelligence “as fast, reliable and actionable as weather forecasting”, according to its developers, enabling users to rapidly analyse outbreak data and generate insights without relying on external software or specialised statistical expertise.
Beyond analytics, ADARV also serves as a public health data warehouse for India, allowing researchers and institutions to upload their datasets and share them openly with the broader research community.
“This open, structured repository aims to shift the culture around health data, from silos to sharing and build a growing common of outbreak intelligence that the entire research ecosystem can learn from,” the platform’s developers said, with officials stating the initiative aims to promote a culture of data sharing in public health by creating an open and structured repository of outbreak-related information.
The platform is expected to support collaborative research and strengthen evidence-based decision-making during public health emergencies, according to officials.
ADARV bridges the gap between data collection and public health action, fundamentally strengthening how researchers investigate outbreaks and make field decisions, with field data collected in the morning during a hepatitis outbreak in Haryana being fully analysed within an hour.
“It allows field teams to upload outbreak data and generate time-place-person analyses within hours rather than weeks. The reports can also be shared with stakeholders,” said a team member explaining the platform’s capabilities.
Dr. Sharan Murali, Scientist at ICMR-NIE and lead epidemiologist of the ADARV team, said that the platform is currently being used to support outbreak investigations in Kerala.
“ADARV envisions transforming field data into actionable intelligence, enabling researchers, epidemiologists, and decision-makers to detect signals earlier, understand outbreaks better, and respond faster,” according to the platform’s vision statement.

Developed through a collaboration between health researchers and technology experts, ADARV combines epidemiological expertise with modern data infrastructure and analytics capabilities to support epidemic intelligence efforts.
The initiative brings together ICMR-NIE’s epidemiological expertise with IISc’s technological capabilities, representing a multisectoral approach to strengthening India’s public health preparedness and response systems.
