Chennai-based Iswarya Fertility Center has announced a growth investment of more than INR 350 crore (approximately US$37 million) from OrbiMed Asia, a leading global healthcare investment firm focused on life sciences and medical services. The funding marks Iswarya’s maiden external round and is aimed at supporting the next phase of growth for one of South India’s largest fertility care networks, which currently operates over 85 centres across eight states and has served more than 300,000 couples over four decades.
The investment will enable Iswarya to establish new centres in both existing and underserved markets, strengthen clinical infrastructure, invest in digital capabilities and expand its embryology talent pipeline. Commenting on the deal, Managing Director Dr Arun Muthuvel said the organisation has been driven for nearly four decades by a single purpose “making parenthood possible” and that the next phase will focus on deepening its pan-India presence, entering underserved geographies and continually raising the bar on clinical outcomes. He highlighted plans to invest in people, technology and patient experience, ensuring that excellence remains central to Iswarya’s operations as it expands access to high-quality fertility care across India and eventually into international markets.
Founder and Chief Clinical Officer Dr S. Chandralekha noted that when Iswarya began in 1986, IVF was beyond the reach of most Indian families, and every centre has since been guided by the belief that clinical excellence and compassion must go hand in hand. She stressed that the organisation’s commitment to clinical rigour, ethical practice and a patient-centred approach remains unchanged, and that Iswarya will continue its mission to make world-class fertility care more accessible, helping many more families experience the joy of parenting and turning hope into new beginnings for future generations.
In a joint statement, OrbiMed’s Dr Sunny Sharma, Partner and Senior Managing Director, and Arun Sadhanandham, Managing Director, said Iswarya has established itself as one of India’s leading fertility platforms through strong clinical outcomes, a trusted brand, a capital-efficient operating model and an experienced leadership team. They expressed delight at partnering with Dr Arun, Dr Chandralekha and the wider management team as Iswarya continues to build a category-defining fertility care platform in India. Veda Corporate Advisors acted as financial advisor to Iswarya and its promoters, with Managing Director VP Rajan describing the company as a rare combination of clinical depth, brand trust and disciplined execution and noting that the transaction attracted strong interest from marquee investors.
India’s total fertility rate has fallen below replacement levels, while infertility affects a growing number of couples due to delayed parenthood, lifestyle factors and rising diagnosis rates. Despite this, fertility treatment penetration remains among the lowest globally, meaning millions of couples who could benefit from IVF are yet to access it, making the expansion of quality fertility care both a pressing healthcare need and a national demographic priority. Against this backdrop, Iswarya’s growth investment from OrbiMed is expected to support broader access to advanced fertility services including IVF, IUI, fertility preservation, genetics and other reproductive treatments strengthening the infrastructure needed to address India’s evolving reproductive health landscape.
