LV Prasad Eye Institute bags award at World Eye Bank Symposium 

The GAEBA’s Inaugural National Award is in recognition of its well-established eye bank network and work done through eye banking towards addressing corneal blindness in the country

LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) has been honoured with the GAEBA’s Inaugural National Award in recognition of its well-established eye bank network and work done through eye banking towards addressing corneal blindness in the country. The award dedicated to celebrating the achievements of the eye bank sector was announced at the World Eye Bank Symposium. It is the first time that the Global Alliance of Eye Bank Associations (GAEBA) have offered this award.

A panel of independent international peers selected LV Prasad Eye Institute for this award from a global pool of candidates for its significant achievements in the promotion of eye banking, openness to collaboration and work done to improve the quality of corneal processing and thus patient care in the country. It also recognised LVPEI for its exceptional leadership, best practices in eye banking, willingness to collaborate and commitment to training and supporting other eye banks within the country and other low-resource countries.

Celebrating this achievement, Dr Sunita Chaurasia, Senior Cornea Faculty and Medical Director of Ramayamma International Eye Bank, L V Prasad Eye Institute, said, “Eye banking is an integral part of L V Prasad Eye Institute. We feel humbled to receive this prestigious award and extend our sincere thanks to GAEBA for this honour. We dedicate this award to our cornea donor families, partner hospitals, and supporters from across the globe who have made this incredible journey possible. We will continue to collaborate and ceaselessly work towards alleviating corneal blindness in India and the world.”
