Marengo Asia Hospitals, Gurugram launches Center for Functional Neurosurgery on World Parkinson’s Day.

Marengo Asia Hospitals, Gurugram, celebrated World Parkinson’s Day with an awareness drive on early diagnosis, advanced treatments, and long-term care for Parkinson’s disease. The highlight was the launch of its Center for Functional Neurosurgery, expanding access to cutting-edge neurological care in North India.

Parkinson’s, a progressive neurodegenerative disorder impacting movement, coordination, balance, and muscle control, often requires multidisciplinary management as it advances. While medications are first-line, their efficacy wanes over time, especially in later stages.

Dr. Praveen Gupta, Chairman, MAIINS, Marengo Asia Hospitals, Gurugram, stated: “Parkinson’s is frequently diagnosed late in India. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) represents a paradigm shift for advanced cases, improving motor function by 70 to 75% in selected patients, reducing medication needs, and enhancing independence. Our new Center for Functional Neurosurgery makes this care more accessible.”

DBS implants electrodes into precise brain regions to regulate abnormal neural activity, offering significant benefits supported by clinical studies.

Dr. Himanshu Champaneri, Clinical Director and Chief Functional & Epilepsy Neurosurgeon, added: “Brain surgeries like DBS intimidate many, but modern techniques are precise and minimally invasive. We plan meticulously using MRIs, insert thin wires to targeted spots, and patients often see mobility gains immediately. The device optimizes brain function over time without pain during the procedure.”

Harpreet Singh, Facility Director, Marengo Asia Hospitals, Gurugram, noted: “We’re educating communities on neurological disorders, delivering world-class treatments locally, and empowering caregivers with management skills through events like this.”

This launch underscores Marengo Asia Hospitals’ dedication to evidence-based neurological innovation, awareness, and comprehensive Parkinson’s support amid rising disease prevalence.
