MTaI welcomes govt’s move on crash course for covid frontline workers

One lakh, COVID-19 frontline workers will be trained through 111 training centres across 26 states

MTaI has welcomed the move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who recently launched the ‘Customized Crash Course Program’ aimed at training one lakh, COVID-19 frontline workers. The courses aimed at training front workers will begin digitally via video conferencing. This course is offered through 111 training centres across 26 states.

Welcoming the move, Pavan Choudary, Chairman & Director General, Medical Technology Association of India (MTaI) said, “The crash courses will not only help generate employment but also would help lakhs of patients who are dependent on these HCWs for their care. With MTaI members training over 2.5L HCWs annually, we understand the exigency of bridging the skill gap in our healthcare ecosystem and appreciate the initiative to address this issue.”

He also added, “MTaI has on several occasions recommended to GOI that the job licensing norms for these positions should be relaxed. Secondly, the norms from migrating from one speciality of allied health to another should also be relaxed. This is important keeping in mind the sudden increase in demand for the HCW and the transferability of skills.”
