The Rs 107-crore facility unveiled under Maritime India Vision 2030, will offer multi-speciality care and extend Ayushman Bharat to port employees and local residents
The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) unveiled a 150-bed multi-speciality hospital project during its Golden Jubilee curtain raiser ceremony at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi.
The hospital project, developed under Maritime India Vision 2030, marks the first such healthcare facility to be built on PPP model at any major port in the country.
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, said, "Under the Maritime India Vision 2030, we are establishing a state-of-the-art, 150-bed multi-specialty hospital near the port on a PPP model. Pioneering as the first such hospital at any major port in India, this Rs 107 crore initiative by NMPA is designed to make quality healthcare easily accessible to the local community."
The hospital will feature advanced medical infrastructure, including modular operating theatres, a cardiac catheterisation lab, and modern diagnostic services. Speciality departments will cover oncology, cardiology, neurology, nephrology and neonatology.
Developed in collaboration with Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences, the hospital will extend all central government health insurance schemes, including Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, to port employees, their families and the general public.
The ceremony also featured the launch of multiple strategic projects including LNG bunkering facility, mechanisation of North Solid Berth, new fishing harbour at Kulai, additional liquid storage tank, ready-to-eat food plant, shore power supply system and commercial complex development.
The projects rollout comes as NMPA commences its 50th-anniversary celebrations, highlighting the port's expanding infrastructure capabilities and commitment to regional economic growth.
