NOTTO honours Dr KM Cherian for organ transplant initiatives

Dr Cherian was honoured by Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar, Minister of State for Health

Dr KM Cherian, Chairman and CEO, Frontier Lifeline Hospital and Dr KM Cherian Heart Foundation was honoured by NOTTO for the work done in the field of cardiac care and organ transplantation in the country.

Dr Cherian was honoured by Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar, Minister of State for Health during the function held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath, New Delhi organised by NOTTO as part of ’12th Indian Organ Donation Day’ celebrations. The minister also honoured the donor’s families and the paramedical staff involved in the cadaver transplant programme.

Dr Cherian has performed India’s first heart transplant in the country after the legalisation of brain death, first heart and lung transplant, first paediatric and interstate transplant and Asia’s first re-transplant after eight years of initial transplant. The recipient after three years took part in World Transplant Games in Malaga, Spain.

Dr Cherian has also performed two transplants in one night which is the third in the world.
