Kamineni Hospitals launched a dedicated Weight Loss Centre to provide multidisciplinary, scientific & personalised obesity management for weight loss

Kamineni Hospitals has launched a dedicated Weight Loss Centre to address obesity as a growing public health concern in India, offering comprehensive, scientific and personalised care through a multidisciplinary approach. With obesity rates rising across age groups and contributing to a growing burden of lifestyle-related diseases, the centre aims to support sustainable weight loss and improve long-term health outcomes.

Dr. B. Sravya, Consultant Endocrinologist at Kamineni Hospitals, said obesity should be treated as a chronic disease rather than a lifestyle issue. She noted that it is closely linked to Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, fatty liver disease, sleep apnea, infertility, osteoarthritis and certain cancers. She added that even a 5 to 10% reduction in body weight can significantly improve blood sugar levels, blood pressure, cholesterol, sleep quality and overall well-being.

Dr. Bhavani, Senior Consultant Diabetologist, said obesity is increasing at an alarming rate globally and in India, with more than 250 million adults in the country affected. She also pointed to the rise in childhood and adolescent obesity, describing Telangana as a major obesity hotspot. According to her, untreated obesity can lead to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver, sleep disorders, joint problems, anxiety and depression, making specialised care increasingly important.

Dr. D. Srinagavani, HOD and Consultant Physiotherapist, stressed that physical activity plays a crucial role in weight management. She said excess body weight puts stress on joints and muscles, often leading to pain, reduced mobility and further weight gain. She explained that structured exercise programmes can improve mobility, preserve muscle mass, boost metabolism, reduce joint stress and help prevent weight regain.

Ms. B. Santosha, Consultant Dietetics and Nutritionist, highlighted the importance of Medical Nutrition Therapy in obesity care. She said personalised diet plans can help manage obesity as well as related conditions such as diabetes, fatty liver disease, PCOS, hypertension and cholesterol disorders. She added that nutrition remains one of the strongest pillars of healthy and lasting weight loss.

The newly launched Weight Loss Centre brings together endocrinologists, diabetologists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, psychologists, genetic specialists and bariatric experts under one roof. The centre offers obesity assessment, metabolic and genetic risk evaluation, body composition analysis, personalised nutrition counselling, structured exercise programmes, medical management, behavioural support and long-term follow-up.
