P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC, Khar, has launched a multidisciplinary Endometriosis Clinic led by Dr. Shinjini Pande and Dr. Vivek Salunke for women

P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre (MRC), Khar, has launched a dedicated multidisciplinary Endometriosis Clinic aimed at enabling early diagnosis, advanced pain management, and comprehensive treatment for women living with the condition.

Endometriosis, a chronic condition affecting women predominantly in their reproductive years, is often overlooked despite being one of the leading causes of severe period pain. While estimates suggest that 1 in 9 women may be living with endometriosis, diagnosis continues to be significantly delayed, with many women waiting 7 to 10 years before receiving appropriate medical attention.

Led by Dr Shinjini Pande and Dr Vivek Salunke, the newly launched Endometriosis Clinic at P. D.  Hinduja Hospital & MRC, Khar will adopt a multidisciplinary approach, bringing together expert consultation, advanced imaging and MRI evaluation, personalised treatment planning, pain management, nutritional guidance, pelvic floor physiotherapy, medical management, and surgical intervention for advanced cases.

“One of the biggest concerns with endometriosis is that women often suffer silently for years because severe period pain is normalised in society. Early diagnosis and timely intervention can significantly help prevent long-term complications and improve quality of life,” explained Dr. Shinjini Pande, Consultant – Gynaecology & Laparoscopic Surgery and Dr. Vivek Salunke, Consultant – Laparoscopic Gynaecology, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC, Khar.

The condition is also commonly misdiagnosed, depending on symptom presentation. In several cases, women are treated for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), painful bladder syndrome, chronic pelvic pain, or even sciatica, delaying timely intervention and appropriate treatment.

“Endometriosis is not just a fertility-related condition, as commonly perceived. While infertility may be associated with the disease, it can also affect multiple organs and present in ways that mimic other health conditions, making diagnosis challenging. A dedicated multidisciplinary approach can help ensure women receive timely, accurate diagnosis and holistic treatment suited to their condition,” added Dr. Shinjini Pande, Consultant – Gynaecology & Laparoscopic Surgery and Dr. Vivek Salunke, Consultant – Laparoscopic Gynaecology, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC, Khar.
