Remidio Innovative Solutions Pvt. Ltd has been granted US Patent No. 12,611,103 for a 3D eye imaging technology built around a wearable form factor, smart glasses or a VR-style headset in place of a bulky slit lamp or ophthalmoscope.
The device folds more than five separate exams into one. Slit lamp imaging, fundus imaging, and diffused anterior segment imaging, among others, are normally done on separate instruments; this design does all of them, and it can capture images of the eye without pupil dilation, using infrared illumination in place of the bright visible light conventional instruments rely on for a clear view of the back of the eye.
“What used to need a slit lamp, an ophthalmoscope, and several specialised exams can now fit into something worn like a pair of glasses. We’re not just making the equipment smaller; we’re changing where an eye exam can happen. That combination – no dilation, wearable rather than desk-mounted, is what makes the patent relevant to Remidio’s broader Oculomics push. The retina is one of the few places in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly, non-invasively, and without radiation. This is why retinal imaging is backed by growing research and clinical validation as the best way to screen for conditions well beyond the eye, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, kidney disease, and neurodegenerative conditions among them – in a fast evolving field of research called Oculomics. A lighter, dilation-free imaging device is a step toward taking that kind of screening out of the specialist’s chair and closer to the patient, and eventually, the consumer.
