Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU), Mumbai, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Montclair State University (MSU), New Jersey, USA, to formalise collaboration and expand initiatives across academics, research, and industry projects. Montclair State University is a prominent US university known for its global engagement and innovative educational programmes.
The partnership builds on collaboration with K J Somaiya Nursing College and the Flash Consultancy Project with K J Somaiya Institute of Management (KJSIM). As part of this collaboration, MBA students from MSU and KJSIM worked together for three months on a real-time Go-To-Market strategy for ProKlean Technologies, an eco-friendly green chemistry company, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge to a real-world, international business challenge. The project enabled students to navigate time zone differences, virtual collaboration, and cross-cultural teamwork while developing strategic recommendations for market entry, scalable consumer adoption, and global expansion.
Under this agreement, both universities will:
- Facilitate exchanges for students and faculty across management, nursing, and other disciplines
- Collaborate on research and experiential learning projects in healthcare, management, and sustainable business practices
- Develop new academic programs, workshops, and joint initiatives, including initiatives in health care education to prepare students for programs such as the NCLEX licensure exam for registered nurses in the US
The MoU was signed by Prof Nandkumar Gilke, Registrar, SVU; Dr Jonathan Koppell, President, Montclair State University; and Governor Phil Murphy in the esteemed presence of Mrs Amrita Somaiya, Trustee of Somaiya Vidyavihar, Dr Satyendra Upadhyay, Director-International Relations, Somaiya Vidyavihar University;
Prof VN Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor of SVU, said: “This MoU formalises a collaboration that reflects SVU’s vision of nurturing global-ready professionals and advancing knowledge across disciplines. It provides our students and faculty with opportunities to engage in international learning, research, and innovation, while strengthening ties with a globally recognised institution like Montclair State University. Together, we aim to develop programs that foster leadership, critical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding, preparing our community to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving world.”
