MUHS establishes independent nursing faculty
Dr Sreelekha Rajesh appointed as the first dean
Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has officially established Nursing as an independent faculty. This landmark achievement not only reshapes the academic landscape in Maharashtra but also recognises the pivotal role nurses play in healthcare. Dr Sreelekha Rajesh has been appointed as the first dean of the Nursing Faculty at MUHS, marking a momentous milestone in nursing education.
Dr Sreelekha currently serves as the Professor cum Vice Principal at GMF Tehmi Grant Institute of Nursing Education (Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune). With over 25 years of experience, she has been instrumental in developing innovative nursing programmes and fostering academic excellence.
Dr Sreelekha stated, "I am honoured to be appointed as the first Dean of the Nursing Faculty at Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. This is a tremendous opportunity to shape the future of nursing education and practice in Maharashtra. I extend my deepest gratitude to Honourable Vice-Chancellor Lt General Madhuri Kanitkar (retd), Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Milind Nikumbh, Registrar Dr Rajendra Bangal, and other esteemed members of the nursing faculty. Vice Chancellor Lt General Madhuri Kanitkar (retd) praised Dr Sreelekha's appointment, emphasising her extensive experience and visionary leadership. "Undoubtedly, her presence will profoundly impact on both the university and the broader healthcare community," she stated.

Additionally, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to nursing education, Dr Sreelekha was honoured with the Best Nurse Educationist award for the year 2023 by the Trained Nurses Association of India, Pune City Branch, on International Nurses Day (May 8, 2024). This award underscores her unwavering commitment to excellence and her transformative influence on future nurses.
