Dr Venu Kavarthapu bags felicitation for pioneering work in diabetic foot reconstruction

Apollo Hospitals in collaboration with the King's College Hospital, London had launched the multidisciplinary Centre of Excellence for Diabetic Foot Management in April 2022 Dr Prathap C Reddy, Founder and Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group felicitated Dr Venu Kavarthapu, a world-renowned orthopaedic surgeon and consultant, King's College Hospital, London; for his pioneering work in diabetic foot reconstruction and management and achieving the unique milestone of treating eleven patients of diabetic foot deformities at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills. Apollo Hospitals in collaboration with the King's College Hospital, London had launched the multidisciplinary Centre of Excellence for Diabetic Foot Management (CoEDFM), in April 2022. The centre offers a novel diabetic foot reconstruction and management treatment for complex diabetic foot deformities, for the first time in India. This treatment enables limb preservation and mobility for patients. The new procedure was developed by Dr Venu Kavarthapu. The CoEDFM is one of its kind diabetic foot management centre in the country. It follows a multi-disciplinary treatment protocol for festering foot-related ailments, which can often be traumatic and life-threatening for diabetic patients. Apollo Hospitals has set up a team of specialists comprising Podiatric surgeons, Vascular surgeons, Orthopaedic surgeons, Infectious disease specialists, Physical therapists and Orthotists, as part of CoEDFM. The team works collaboratively to address medical optimisation, arterial perfusion and infection eradication to ensure a functional leg, ankle and foot.
