Aster DM Healthcare affirms its contribution to India’s growing medical value tourism

Aster DM Healthcare played a pivotal role in the recently concluded 7th Edition of the Advantage Health Care-India summit, themed ‘ONE EARTH ONE HEALTH.’ The event, held at the Mahatma Mandir Convention & Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, was jointly organised by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoH&FW), Government of India, and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI). The summit coincided with the G20 4th Health Working Group & Ministers Meeting, providing an unprecedented platform for global healthcare leaders to converge and chart the course for the future of medical tourism.

Dr Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman and MD, Aster DM Healthcare in his inaugural speech at Advantage Health Care-India 2023, said, “Today the image of India has completely transformed, especially in healthcare. The Medical Value Tourism (MVT) industry in India is experiencing remarkable growth, presenting lucrative opportunities for private companies. As of 2020, the MVT market in India was valued at $2.89 billion, with projections indicating a substantial increase to reach $13.42 billion by 2026. This rapid expansion underscores the immense potential for enterprises to establish a strong presence within this thriving sector.

Among the three flagship hospitals of Aster DM Healthcare India, namely Aster Medcity, Aster CMI & Aster MIMS Calicut, around 4000 international patients in IPD and more than 3600 patients in OPD were served in FY 22-23 from countries like Oman, the UAE, patients from East and West African countries, Middle East, and SAARC countries like Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal and more collectively achieving more than 80cr revenue for Aster India business. Specialities that are most sought after are oncology, transplants (liver, kidney, bone marrow), neuro surgery, joint replacement and spine and cardiac and prostrate ailments.

At the Advantage Healthcare-India 2023, Dr Moopen co-chaired the session: Building a Continuum of Care: Integrated Healthcare for Holistic Wellbeing of the World, along with session chair G Kamala Vardhana Rao, Secretary to the Government of India & CEO, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The session, carefully curated by both Chairs, saw prominent names from the healthcare industry delve into critical aspects of the healthcare landscape, focusing on the seamless integration of healthcare services across the spectrum of patient needs.

Summing up the discussion, Dr Moopen expressed the importance of leveraging healthcare innovations, technologies like cloud-sharing and telemedicine, and secure data-sharing measures that can help build the MVT ecosystem in India.

Dr Moopen was also part of the esteemed CEO roundtable at the event, which saw participation and discussions among the leading healthcare leaders in India and government dignitaries.
