The clinic will be a one-stop, state-of-the-art facility for diagnosing and treating all valve-related diseases

World-renowned cardiologist and the inventor of TAVI procedure, Prof Alain Cribier inaugurated the first and dedicated Transcatheter Heart Valve Clinic, in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. The clinic will be a one-stop, state-of-the-art facility for diagnosing and treating all valve-related diseases.

Dr PC Rath, Head of the Department of Cardiology, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad said, “The advantage of this Clinic is, patients suffering from valve diseases will be jointly seen by cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeon and they both take a call on what is the most appropriate treatment for the patient, which benefits the patient.”

Prof Helene from France said, “The first valve replacement without surgery was done at our Centre two decades ago, Dr Rath had come to our Centre and we have been working on these since then. With so many patients here with valve problems, this Clinic will benefit them. This treatment is a new revolution in comparison to surgery for patients.

Dr A Sreenivas Kumar, Director Cardiology and Clinical Research, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad said, “When the patients’ valves were damaged, the available option in the past was open heart surgery, but such surgery involved high risk, especially for elderly patients and such patients were left to die. Through this new procedure, the damaged valve is replaced by passing it to the heart through a small incision in the groin. At the new Transcatheter Heart Valve Clinic, started at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, the heart Team comprising of Cardiologists, Cardiothoracic surgeons, Anaesthetists, Critical care specialists, Image consultants, take a collective decision of the procedure to be adopted, depending on the patient’s condition. Patients not just from Hyderabad, but from all over India can avail the service of this speciality clinic since such facility is not available anywhere in the country.”
