Intuitive India, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU conduct hands-on workshop on RAS

More than 100 students and surgeons from JNMC, Aligarh, and other medical colleges in the state were a part of this programme 

Intuitive India, the India arm of Intuitive Surgical has joined hands with the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU, to familiarise and build awareness about robotic-assisted surgery among the surgical fraternity. As a part of Intuitive’s roving robot programme and JNMC’s annual conference, a four-day hands-on workshop was conducted for surgeons and medical students in Aligarh. More than 100 students and surgeons from JNMC, Aligarh, and other medical colleges in the state were a part of this programme organised by the department of surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College- Aligarh Muslim University, in association with the Association of Surgeons of Aligarh (ASA).

Through this initiative, Intuitive and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College aims to familiarise the medical fraternity with robotic-assisted surgery, its technology, clinical applications and its safety profile. Intuitive is conducting more such workshops in collaboration with institutions across India as a part of their Roving-Robot programme.

The organising committee had formulated a comprehensive programme to ensure extensive hands-on learning for the departments of surgery, urology and obstetrics, and gynaecology and CTVS. The workshop was carried out on Intuitive’s latest da Vinci Xi technology. Demonstration of advanced technologies for real-time visual assistant, dual grip technology, and suturing & simulation exercises were also a part of this workshop.

Prof Tariq Mansoor, Vice-Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, said, ” Adopting new technologies like robotic-assisted surgery will go a long way in overcoming the current geographical challenges we face in terms of access to hospitals in nearby states for advanced treatment. I wholeheartedly appreciate the department of Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, and Intuitive for arranging such a workshop here.”

Prof Afsal Anees (organising chairman), Dr Rajeshwar S Chowdhary (co-organising secretary), Dr Wasim Muhammed Ali (co-organizing secretary), Dr Mohammed Sadik Akhter (treasurer), and Dr Muhammed Nafeez Ahamad were also a part of this workshop.
