World Implant Expo 2023 in Kochi discuss global impact of edentulism

Experts at the expo emphasised the global prevalence of dental diseases impacting millions of people and the imperative to address this health concern

The World Implant Expo was recently held in Kochi, marking the first-ever Global Conference of Dental Implantologists in Kerala. Experts at the expo emphasised the global prevalence of dental diseases impacting millions of people and the imperative to address this health concern. The conference highlighted that early detection and treatment of dental diseases using cutting-edge technologies can significantly improve outcomes.

Dr Shankar Iyer, Chairman of the Implant Expo and Director of Malo Smile USA, Clinical Assistant Professor at Rutgers University, stressed that tooth loss can contribute to the acceleration of conditions such as cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer’s. Pregnant women with gum disease are also found to have a higher likelihood of low birth weight. The inability to chew and enjoy proper food following tooth loss not only impacts oral health but also has broader implications for overall well-being.

Organised by Dentist Channel in collaboration with Smile USA Academy, ADACRP USA, Pace Academy USA, Rossman University USA, and LEZK FFS Germany, the expo features participation from over 40 dental companies, including ZimVie, Bio Horizons Camlog, Dental Care Dental Lab, and Crest Biologics.

Dr Iyer welcomed attendees to the conference’s first day, which included sessions led by experts such as Dr Aman Bhullar, Dr Akshay Kumaraswamy, Dr Hardeek, Dr Sammy Noumbissi from the USA, and Dr N Chandrasekhar, Dr V Rangarajan, Dr Sacheev Nanda and Dr Ashish Kakkar from India. Additional speakers include Dr Calderon from the US, Dr Sauheel Hussaini, Dr Shalan Verma from the UAE, Dr Med Dent Vladitsis, Anastasios Papanikolaou from Greece, Dr Ashwini Padhe, and Dr Saloni Mistry from India.

The conference, hosted around 40 world-renowned implantologists and dental professionals, aims to address dental health comprehensively, drawing expertise from countries like India, the US, Canada, Bangladesh, Greece, and Egypt. Over 500 dental professionals and students are expected to participate in this landmark event.
