Dr B K Rao is the New Chairman of National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH)

Dr B K RaoDr Brijendra Kumar Rao has been nominated as the Chairman, National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) from Jan 2018-Jan 2020.

Born on March 24, 1954 Dr Rao received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS) from Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi in 1975 followed by Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) in Anaesthesiology.

Dr Rao started his career as a Consultant Anesthesiologist in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in 1983 and has been a member of the hospital’s Board of Management from 1996 till date. He has been the Chairman, Board of Management of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital from 2006-2011. Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is a leading multi-specialty tertiary care hospital in New Delhi with over 1000 beds under its fold.

Currently Dr Rao is the Chairman, Department of Critical Care and Emergency Medicine of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Dr. Rao is a teacher, guide and researcher in the field of Critical Care Medicine and has richly contributed to the scientific literature through his articles, chapters and publications. He has travelled widely and has been a faculty in numerous national and international conferences and workshops on Trauma & Critical Care.

He has also received an International Fellowship by American Respiratory Care Foundation and American Association for Respiratory Care, Dallas, USA in 1993 in recognition of his contribution in promoting the respiratory care practices in India.

He was a Member of Post-Graduation and Ethics committees of Medical Council of India. Subsequently Dr Rao served as a member of the Board of Governors, Medical Council of India (2013) and Legal & Financial Advisor to the President, Medical Council of India (2014). Dr Rao also served for over 7 years as an External Expert on the Technical Advisory Committee, Govt. of NCR Delhi. In the past, Dr Rao is former president of International Trauma Anaesthesia & Critical Care Society (Indian Chapter).

For his distinguished services in medial field the Hon’ble President of India awarded him Padma Bhushan, the third highest national award, in April 2009.

Dr Rao is the chairman, ASSOCHAM National Council on Healthcare & Hospitals since 2007 and has been representing ASSOCHAM in NABH board meetings since 2011.
