Brain-dead organ donor saves 7 lives

PRESS RELEASE  A 42-year-old man, named Chandru saved the lives of 7 people after being declared brain dead.  He donated his liver, both the kidneys and heart valves to save the lives of 7 needy people.

Chandru was travelling in the auto on 13th May at 6 PM, when the auto driver suddenly applied brakes to escape the bus in front of him. The victim fell outside the auto and succumbed to serious head injury. The accident occurred at Devihalli- Bellur cross. After basic first aid procedures, the victim was sent to SPARSH Hospitals on a ventilator. In the evening, he was declared brain dead.

Chandru worked as an auto driver himself. Jeeva Sartakathe – the body of organ donation under Government of Karnataka counselled his wife Mrs. Yashoda and other close relatives.  It was Mrs. Yashoda who took the final call, and decided to donate the organs, in order to save the lives of 7 other people.

After this decision, a person then underwent a liver transplant. The procedure was completed successfully by Dr. Mathew, Dr Rajivalochana, Dr Mallikarjun Sakpal and team at SPARSH Hospital, Yeswanthpur. The liver transplant was the first transplant to be done at SPARSH Hospitals. One kidney was also transplanted by Dr Ramachandra, Dr Avinash and team at SPARSH Hospital.

While the other kidney and heart valves were sent to JSS Hospital, Mysore and Narayana Health City respectively. This was done as allotted by Jeeva Sarthakathe
