Walkathon organised by Sagar Hospital on the occasion of World Heart Day

My Heart,Your Heart- World Heart Day: Create Survivors Together. A Walk for your health! Bengaluru, September 28, 2019- Laced up in sneakers, donning the colours of heart and health, the residents of  South Bengaluru stepped out in several hundreds to participate in annual walk-a-thon event held to bring awareness around heart health on occasion of World Heart Day.  This mega event was sponsored and organized by Sagar Hospitals, Bengaluru. Flagging off the walk was done by guest of honour DCP VVIP Illkkya Karunakaran along with the prominent cardiologist Dr. K S Kishore and team of doctors, and led by the team of Sagar Hospitals. The walk began at 6:30 am with 800 plus strong walkers, from all age groups, carrying the message of ‘heart survivors’ followed by a session of health discussion while enjoying a light breakfast.  The main aim of this morning brisk walk was to emphasize on physical exercise, diet and healthy lifestyle that can prevent residents from falling prey to heart ailments. Cardiovascular diseases are plaguing our nation and is the one of the most common threats of death among our countries population. It is alarming to note the increasing percentage of young people between the age group of 18-40 years who are now facing heart problems, thanks to their sedentary lifestyles. On top of that, most public isn’t aware of the general signs and symptoms of a heart attack. General public awareness is now needed more than ever before since we have the best treatments, best hospitals and well-qualified doctors in the country and people can avail timely treatments. Emphasizing the need of awareness walk-a-thon, Dr. Kishore KS, Senior Consultant Cardiologist, Sagar Hospitals said, “There is a growing gap among the young and old alike when it comes to our heart health. It is our responsibility, as leading healthcare providers, to take initiatives, like today’s walk-a-thon event, and spread the word of physical and mental health importance. A thirty (30) minute walk a day for five (5) days a week is all you need to keep heart issues at bay.” Relaying the message of health, Ishiqa Multani, President, Sagar Group of Hospitals, said, “it’s an immense feeling of satisfaction when you see a turn out of 800 strong people from your immediate community to come hand-in-hand with you to spread the message of heart health. I congratulate the entire organizing team of Sagar Hospitals to have taken this responsible initiative.”
